Sanding & Refinishing
International Custom Hardwood Floors
makes finishing hardwood floors a pleasant experience. State of the art techniques keep dust confined in vacuum bags .We sand each floor up to a high grit sandpaper while filling holes and cracks in between steps to ensure a smooth, level finish. In the event you have any prior damage from water, pet stains or termites, these boards can be replaced. We use a special 150-pound buffer that vacuums simultaneously, and all of our equipment is monitored on each job site to maintain consistent performance. We also provide shoe molding around the entire perimeter of the floor.

Recoating:
Recoating can energize new life back into old floors. This is typically a one-day process and is a less expensive alternative to completely resending. The recoating process includes buffing the floor to remove light scratches and preparing the floor for fresh layers of polyurethane.

Sanding:

The great thing about wood floors is that they can last forever with proper care. No matter how careful you are with your hardwoods, though, you will still have to refinish them at some point. If your floors take a beating, from pets for example, you may have to refinish more often. Some floors only need to be refinished every three years, some high traffic floors may need more frequent refinishing.

Staining:
There are many different stain shades available. Although color charts are helpful, what looks right printed on paper will always look different on its intended surface. Also, different types of hardwood floors can look different with the same stain, so consider the species.
Stain will also look a little different on refinished flooring than on newly installed wood, but proper sanding will help it accept the stain better. Try several different stain colors on a sample of the same kind of wood as your flooring to get a good idea of the final result.
To resolve most of that problem Our customers enjoy the unique way we show them how a variety of colors will look in their home. Instead of just seeing floor samples, they get to see the different stain colors on their floors before choosing it.

| Molding:
Wood floors require expansion space at the wall. Moldings are used to cover the expansion area, to hide cut ends, to create height differences, and to accent the floor Profiles are many and vary through the industry. Here are some examples. |

Base -- from 3/8" to 5/8"thick, from 1 1/2" to 4+" high; used to protect the wall and "picture-frame" the wood floor
| Molding: |
| One Sided Reducer Transition to carpeted areas. More common uses against solid objects such as sliding doors or other areas where common quarter round would not look proper. Vertical height flush reducer from material to other floor coverings such as vinyl. |

Distressing:

Hand-scraped and Distressed hardwood floors are becoming a popular choice in today’s upscale homes and commercial buildings. These floors are a newer trend but are rooted in history. Before today’s modern sanding methods, floors were hand scraped on site to make the floors flat. Today’s hand scraping is done to add texture, richness and uniqueness.
Distressed hardwood flooring is done by machine or by hand. In an effort to reduce high labor costs, manufacturers have created machine-made distressed/scraped looking floors. These are cheaper imitations of the real thing. The problem with machine distressing is repetition of the pattern. As you look across the floor you see the same pattern repeating across the floor. This lacks a natural feel to the floor.
International custom hardwood floors can create True hand scraped distress to your exiting or new floors by hand. When properly done this method it creates a truly unique floor. Your floors will differ greatly in the in looks and texture.

Care & Maintenance Tips:
• Vacuum regularly.
• Use mats in front of entryways and kitchen sinks.
• Wipe up liquid spills promptly.
• Apply felt tack or other floor protectors to the bottoms of chair legs and movable furniture.
• Weekly cleaning with a polyurethane cleaner: Spray cleaner on cloth and wipe the floor surface.
• If the finish shows signs of wear, lightly buff and redcoat with polyurethane.
• DO NOT: use excessive amounts of water or oil based cleaners on your hardwood floors!
• DO NOT: apply wax to polyurethane finishes!
More Useful Techniques
• Don't Damp Mop - Water and hardwood floors don't mix! Use only the manufacturer's recommended cleaning products on
your hardwood floor.
• Vacuum Regularly - Small stones, mud and gritty dirt tracked in from outside can scratch the finish of your wood floor's finish.
To help combat this use long bristle welcome mats placed at all outside entrances for people to wipe their feet on before entering onto the floors. Also, vacuum using a soft bristle brush attachment.
• Use the Proper Chair Glides - Narrow wheels, sharp wooden legs or metal furniture legs can scratch and dent hardwood floors. Any furniture that rests directly on top of a hardwood floor should have felt protectors, or furniture coasters under all it's feet. For extremely heavy objects such as a piano, use wide, non-staining rubber cups. Purchasing floor protectors is cheap insurance for
Protecting your hardwood floor investment.
• Don't Use Oil Soaps - There are many over the counter oil-based soaps and wax based cleaning products that may damage or dull the finish of your wood floor. The best suggestion is to only use the manufacturers recommended cleaning products on your hardwood flooring.
• Never Wax a Urethane Floor - If your hardwood floor has a polyurethane finish never use a paste wax on the floor's surface. A paste wax may form a sticky film on your floor and allow tracked in dirt to stick to your wood finish. Polyurethane finishes will not adhere to any wax and adding a fresh coat of polyurethane to your floor will be very difficult.
• Wipe Spills Immediately - when accidents happen and some liquid gets spilled on your hardwood floor, you should use a slightly damp white cloth, or paper towel to immediately clean up and dry the effected area. For more difficult spots, follow the manufacturer's recommended cleaning procedures.
